This year titled Rural Living | Living City, Studio 6 is focused on issues of depopulation in rural towns and villages, and the lack of permanent residential communities in Belfast’s city centre. A series of proposals for new dwellings, industries and community facilities have been made in Glenarm in the first semester. In the second semester the studio has shifted its focus to North Street in Belfast’s city centre, aiming to make a series of public realm interventions and proposals for new dwellings that might attract a range of inhabitants including young families. The aim is to create communities that have longevity in a place, a Living City, which resist the transient nature of high-density student housing and market-led 1 to 2 bedroom apartment developments.
